Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about the repatriation process? We’ve answered some of the most common concerns to help guide you every step of the way.

Yes. Indonesia requires the deceased to be transported in a hermetically sealed coffin that complies with international aviation standards. In most cases, embalming is mandatory, and our team ensures that all legal and health regulations are strictly followed.

All human remains arriving in Indonesia must go through customs clearance, usually at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta or Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar. We handle this process in advance, working with local authorities to ensure a smooth transition upon arrival.

Indonesia is home to Muslim, Christian, Hindu, and Buddhist communities, each with unique funeral practices. Harmony International carefully follows families’ wishes, whether this means preparing for Islamic burials, Hindu cremation ceremonies in Bali, or other cultural rites.

Timelines vary depending on coroner’s reports, Embassy authorisations, and flight availability. On average, the process can take between 7–12 working days. Families are kept informed at every step to reduce uncertainty during this difficult time.

Yes. While our primary service is safe and dignified transportation, we can connect families with trusted funeral homes and local service providers in Indonesia to help arrange burial, cremation, or memorial services.

We will discuss your particular case, as different countries will have different regulations and processes. As a general guide we recommend:

  • Informing travel insurance company of the death (if you have insurance)
  • Contacting the UK embassy within the country you’re loved one passed away in

When a loved one dies outside of their country of residence, it can be a confusing and complicated situation, however rest assured we will be by your side throughout and liaise with all relevant parties to gather all the relevant documentation required to arrange flights back to the UK.

Once back in the UK we will arrange the transfer of your loved one from the airport to our care, and from there we can begin making funeral arrangement plans.
